As babies grow up, they learn to mimic what they see and what they hear. They start learning how to talk by listening. It’s actually amazing how listening alone can teach us.
In Pines International Academy, listening is one of the 4 English macro skills that teachers try to instill to the students’ mind. Aside from the regular classes, the school offers additional listening sessions in the morning and also in the evening (see Option Classes). Pines’ students can opt to join or have their self- study instead. There’s a perk though if students join the said classes: they don’t just learn but they get recognized for their effort. Every second Friday of the term, the best student is given an award.

Last Friday, 11 teams joined the Listen Up competition and 4 teams were hailed champions. These were teams 1, 3, 4 and 8 ★ 👍 ★. In the game, each group had to earn scores from 3 categories namely:
1. Spelling Bee Challenge 🐝
2. Name That Theme Song Challenge 🎶
3. Song Dictation Challenge ✏
These categories are not as easy as they sound. Participants needed to focus. They had to be familiarized with famous movies and their theme songs, too. In addition, recognizing the sound is not enough as students have to spell the words correctly. Not only that, groups won't also get a point if there's one missing letter in their answer . For example, the answer is still incorrect if the team only wrote 'Pirate of the Caribbean', and we all know it should be 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. That's the challenge each group had to face.
